Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Philadelphia Phillies 1:35 PM ET
Phillies Team Total Over 4.5 Runs (+105 per DraftKings)
Embed from Getty ImagesIn this early afternoon spot at home for the Phillies, it creates an opportunity to really generate some runs. They’ve been a little slow out of the gate this year compared to where many thought they’d be, but yesterday’s win against the D-backs showed some life with the bats. A very familiar arm will be on the mound this afternoon for Arizona in Zac Gallen, who several Phillies players have had success against. There are 3 players on the Phillies with over 10 at-bats against Gallen that are batting .300 or better against him. With offense in baseball, it is a very contagious thing, so if one of those guys, whether it’s Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, or Bryson Stott, gets going, it will create some momentum for the entire offense. I expect to see a solid amount of runs out of this Phillies team, and over 4.5 at +105 is just too hard to pass up.
Athletics vs. New York Mets 1:40 PM ET
Mets Team Total Over 3.5 Runs (-140 per DraftKings)
Similar to the Phillies, the Mets order hasn’t been quite as effective out of the gate as expected. They have been successful generating runs, however, especially in games in the early afternoon. Even in the Mets’ loss yesterday afternoon, they were able to generate 6 runs. Aaron Civale will be a familiar opponent for many of the hitters in this Mets lineup, many of whom have had success against him, with 6 guys over .250 against him. Civale has been pretty good this year with a 2.70 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP, but his career ERA is 4.13, and 1.21 WHIP. I expect his numbers to shift closer to those numbers, starting today. Given all these factors, I don’t foresee the Mets having many issues generating 4 runs.
Miami Marlins vs. Detroit Tigers 1:40 PM ET
Sandy Alcantara Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+113 per DraftKings)
Through 3 games played and 24.1 innings pitched, Sandy Alcantara is seemingly in Cy Young form. Alcantara currently holds a 0.74 ERA, with a .58 WHIP, and a K/9 of 6.66. He does have 18 strikeouts thus far, with obviously a lot of innings pitched compared to the majority of pitchers in the league. His career average K/9 is 7.77, so I expect as Alcantara becomes more acclimated with this season in particular, he will be set up to rack up more and more strikeouts. Not to mention, he will be going up against a Tigers lineup that has 134 strikeouts on the season, which is 8th most in the MLB. Being the game is in Detroit, there’s no doubt it will be tougher than normal for Alcantara, but I expect him to have another impressive outing today.
Washington Nationals vs. Milwaukee Brewers 2:10 PM ET
Luis Garcia Jr. Over 0.5 Hits (-171 per DraftKings)
Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. has been as advertised this season, being an effective contact hitter with a .289 batting average. His OPS is also above his career average at the moment at .771 vs. .710. We’ve seen Garcia manage to get hits in his last 2 games as well, with one against this Brewers team on Friday. Against Brandon Woodruff, Garcia has been one of the more successful players on the Nationals with a .333 batting average in 6 at-bats.
Cleveland Guardians vs. Atlanta Braves 7:20 PM ET
Mauricio Dubon under 0.5 Hits (+116 per DraftKings)
While Mauricio Dubon has a really strong batting average of .321 this season, he struggled at the plate against this Guardians team yesterday, going 0 for 4. This evening they will be facing Tanner Bibee, who Dubon has had some issues against throughout his career, going 0 for 4. Bibee, while he hasn’t recorded a win in 3 starts, still boasts a 3.29 ERA and an 8.56 H/9, which can certainly be improved upon.
