Minnesota Twins vs. Washington Nationals 1:05 PM ET
James Wood Over 0.5 Hits (-212 per DraftKings)
We’ve seen James Wood settle into the leadoff spot for the Washington Nationals, and he has been really effective in that role. His batting average is slowly climbing back toward his career mark, as he currently sits at .239 compared to his career average of .256. His OPS is also up this year, largely due to improvements in both his on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
The month of May has already gotten off to a solid start for the young lefty, as he has recorded a hit in 3 of his first 5 games and is batting .250 this month. Wood will be facing Simeon Woods Richardson for the first time this afternoon, whose H/9 currently sits at 12.20 this season. Richardson has also allowed a combined 17 hits across his last 2 starts.
Wood has been better against right-handed pitching this season as well, batting .242 against righties, and I expect that trend to continue this afternoon.
New York Mets vs. Colorado Rockies 3:10 PM ET
Marcus Semien Over 1.5 Total Bases (-117 per DraftKings)
Yesterday, Marcus Semien finally had his breakthrough game for the Mets, going 4 for 5 with 3 runs, 8 total bases, and 2 RBIs. Frankly, up until this point, it has not been smooth sailing for the veteran infielder, as he currently holds a .231 batting average and a .602 OPS, both below his career averages.
Semien certainly has not been a total bases machine this season, as he has just 42 total bases through 36 games, but yesterday’s performance could be exactly what he needed to spark the bat moving forward. He and the Mets will be facing Jose Quintana today, who Semien has hit well throughout his career. In 17 ABs, Semien owns a .353 batting average along with a .918 OPS against Quintana.
Semien has also been excellent this season against left-handed pitching, batting .321 with a .760 OPS. Today’s matchup in Colorado feels like the perfect setup for Semien to follow up yesterday’s strong performance with another productive day at the plate.
Athletics vs. Philadelphia Phillies 6:40 PM ET
Brandon Marsh Over 1.5 Total Bases (+139 per DraftKings)
If there has been one guy to rely on for this Phillies team this season, it has been Brandon Marsh. He has been the epitome of consistency for this lineup, and he has been notorious for crushing right-handed pitching, which is exactly what he’ll see tonight against J.T. Ginn and the Athletics.
Marsh has also been an absolute monster in the month of May, batting .500 through 5 games while accumulating 13 total bases. Over those 5 games, he has surpassed 1.5 total bases 3 times, and in his last 10 games overall, he has gone over that mark 6 times.
Against right-handed pitching this season, Marsh is batting .351 with a .553 slugging percentage, both comfortably above his numbers against lefties, where he owns a .280 batting average and a .360 slugging percentage. He also happens to perform better in night games, batting .361 this season in those spots.
With all of those trends lining up, expect Marsh to put together another productive night at the plate this evening.
Baltimore Orioles vs. Miami Marlins 6:40 PM ET
Embed from Getty ImagesMax Meyer Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-118 per DraftKings)
Marlins starter Max Meyer has developed into a really strong strikeout pitcher this season, recording 40 Ks through 37.0 innings pitched. His ERA has dropped significantly this year, as he currently sits at 2.68, while also carrying an impressive 1.03 WHIP.
Miami loosened the leash on Meyer in his last outing against the Phillies, as it marked his first appearance of the season where he pitched deeper than 5.1 innings. He has already recorded over 5.5 strikeouts in 3 starts this year, and this Orioles lineup has struggled with strikeouts throughout the season.
Baltimore currently ranks 8th in the MLB in strikeouts, with 340 total punchouts, averaging roughly 9.1 per game. If Meyer can continue limiting hits the way he has over his last several outings, he should be in a strong position to rack up strikeouts against this Orioles lineup tonight.
