Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins

The Nationals entered the weekend fourth in the league in scoring with over 5.3 runs per game. They were also 23rd in batting average against right-handed pitchers at .223. Washington faces Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara, who has a 4.01 ERA with 0.7 home runs per nine innings allowed. Nationals starting pitcher Cade Cavalli owns a 4.15 ERA, but his 3.10 fielding independent points towards positivity with 10.4 strikeouts and 0.3 home runs per nine innings allowed.

Picks: Marlins Moneyline -128 and Under 8.5 Runs
(Greg’s Handicap Marlins -158 and Total 7.9)

1:35 PM Eastern

Athletics vs. Baltimore Orioles

Athletics starting pitcher Luis Severino had had command issues this season with 5.2 walks per nine innings, but a respectable 4.15 ERA with one home run per nine innings allowed. Since joining the Athletics in 2025, Severino owns a 3.17 ERA with 0.6 home runs per nine innings allowed in his road starts. Orioles starting pitcher Chris Bassitt owns a 5.91 ERA with 4.8 walks per nine innings, but has been better of late with zero or one run allowed in three of his past five starts and has allowed just 0.8 home runs per nine innings this season.

Pick: Athletics vs. Orioles Under 9.5 Runs
(Greg’s Handicapped Total 8.9)

2:10 PM Eastern

New York Yankees vs. Milwaukee Brewers

Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon is making his first start at the MLB level this season after three minor league rehab appearances, posting a 3.38 ERA with 1.7 home runs per nine innings allowed. Brewers starting pitcher Logan Henderson has been much more effective than his 4.50 ERA would indicate through two starts, getting 12.4 strikeouts per nine innings with no home runs allowed and a 0.76 fielding independent. He is supported by a lineup that is sixth in scoring with 5.2 runs per game.

Picks: Brewers Moneyline +115 and Over 8 Runs
(Greg’s Handicap Brewers -103 and Total 8.7)

2:35 PM Eastern

Chicago Cubs vs. Texas Rangers

Cubs starting pitcher Jameson Taillon has a 4.24 ERA this season, but his 6.01 fielding independent with 2.5 home runs and 3.1 walks per nine innings are a concern. Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom has a 3.11 ERA with 11.2 strikeouts and 1.9 walks per nine innings. While the Cubs lead the league in scoring with 5.5 runs per game, the Rangers’ bullpen leads the league in lowest ERA at 2.93.

Pick: Rangers Moneyline -120
(Greg’s Handicap Rangers -153)

Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodgers starting pitcher Justin Wrobleski has a stellar 1.25 ERA this season, but it appears unsustainable with getting only 3.8 strikeouts per nine innings and a fielding independent that is nearly two points higher at 3.22. Wrobleski faces a Braves lineup that ranks second in scoring with just under 5.5 runs per game. Braves starting pitcher Bryce Elder has looked like a new man this season with a 2.02 ERA and 3.19 fielding independent with 8.3 strikeouts and 0.6 home runs per nine innings allowed. He is supported by a bullpen that is third in ERA at 3.20.

Picks: Braves Moneyline +124 and Over 9 Runs
(Greg’s Handicap Braves +114 and Total 9.6)

St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Diego Padres

Cardinals starting pitcher Kyle Leahy has struggled since making the move to the starting rotation this season with a 4.93 ERA and 5.21 fielding independent, giving up 1.6 home runs and 3.4 walks per nine innings. He is supported by a bullpen that is 24th in ERA at 4.67. Padres starting pitcher Walker Buehler has pitched better than his 5.64 ERA would indicate, getting his strikeouts per nine innings rate back to 8.6, his best since 2021. He has a 3.46 fielding independent with 0.6 home runs per nine innings allowed.

Pick: Padres Moneyline -130
(Greg’s Handicap Padres -154)
