Detroit Tigers vs. Tampa Bay Rays
Griffin Jax has thrived since moving from the bullpen to the rotation, posting a 1.71 ERA with just 0.4 home runs allowed per nine innings across six starts after struggling to an 8.00 ERA as a reliever. Tampa Bay draws a favorable matchup against a Tigers lineup that ranks 28th in scoring at 3.75 runs per game. Detroit has yet to officially name a starter, though Ty Madden could return from the injured list in some capacity, and the Tigers bullpen ranks only 19th in ERA.
Pick: Rays Run Line -1.5 +132 and Over 7.5 Runs
Greg’s Handicap: Rays -1.5 +126 and Total 8.1
7:10 PM Eastern
Kansas City Royals vs. Cincinnati Reds
Kansas City continues to struggle offensively away from home, ranking last in the league in road scoring at just 3.1 runs per game. Chase Burns has been outstanding for Cincinnati with a 1.96 ERA and 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings. Luinder Avila’s 5.06 ERA looks misleading given his 3.49 FIP and excellent home-run prevention, suggesting this could be a lower-scoring game than the surface numbers indicate.
Pick: Royals vs. Reds Under 9 Runs
Greg’s Handicap: Total 8.3
7:40 PM Eastern
San Francisco Giants vs. Milwaukee Brewers
Shane Drohan may not provide much length, but he has been effective with a 2.63 ERA and only one home run allowed in 27⅓ innings this season. Milwaukee’s bullpen has been one of the league’s best, ranking seventh in ERA. Landen Roupp has been one of the few bright spots for San Francisco, posting a 3.30 ERA and 2.65 FIP with strong strikeout numbers, but the Giants continue to own the worst offense in baseball while the Brewers rank fourth in home scoring.
Pick: Brewers Moneyline -134
Greg’s Handicap: Brewers -166
7:45 PM Eastern
Texas Rangers vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Embed from Getty ImagesJacob deGrom has remained dominant in most areas, striking out 10.6 batters per nine innings while issuing very few walks, though an unusually high home-run rate has pushed his ERA to 3.77. Michael McGreevy owns a solid 2.98 ERA, but his underlying metrics suggest regression may be ahead. Texas also holds the edge in bullpen performance, and St. Louis has struggled offensively at home.
Pick: Rangers Moneyline -115 and Over 7.5 Runs
Greg’s Handicap: Rangers -141 and Total 8.1
9:38 PM Eastern
Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Angels
Jose Soriano has been excellent for the Angels with a 2.65 ERA, 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings, and strong home-run suppression. Colorado counters with Kyle Freeland, who has struggled badly with an 8.08 ERA and 2.6 home runs allowed per nine innings. However, the Angels rank 29th in home scoring, which limits the potential for a high-scoring affair.
Pick: Rockies vs. Angels Under 8.5 Runs
Greg’s Handicap: Total 7.7
9:40 PM Eastern
New York Mets vs. Seattle Mariners
The Mets are expected to deploy Austin Warren as an opener before turning the game over to Sean Manaea, who has struggled with a 5.56 ERA and four walks per nine innings. Seattle counters with Emerson Hancock, who is enjoying a breakout season with a 2.78 ERA, 8.8 strikeouts per nine innings, and excellent control. The matchup is further enhanced by a Mets offense that ranks last in the National League in road scoring.
Pick: Mariners Moneyline -130
Greg’s Handicap: Mariners -156
