The Panthers routed the Oilers 6-1 in a penalty-riddled Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday night. There were 140 minutes of penalties, fourth most in a Final game. A late Florida goal finally put the game Over the Total of 6.5. Game 4 is Thursday with the Panthers up 2-1 and -143 favorites at Circa.
Racing to Omaha
VSiN is already on the way to Omaha.
Murray State is heading there, too, thanks to a 5-4 upset of Duke on Monday night.
Murray State was +80000 to win the College World Series at the start of the tournament. The Racers still are the biggest underdogs at +4000. Circa Sports odds to win CWS for the rest of the field: LSU (+199), Arkansas (+225), Oregon State (+545), Coastal Carolina (+625), UCLA (+1000), Arizona (+1800) and Louisville (+2900).
Here are the first set of games for the College World Series (odds from DraftKings):
Friday (Bracket 1)
- Arizona (+175) vs. Coastal Carolina (-230), 1 CT, ESPN
- Louisville (+124) vs. Oregon State (-160), 6 CT, ESPN
Saturday (Bracket 2)
- Murray State (+210) vs. UCLA (-280), 1 CT, ESPN
- LSU (-110) vs. Arkansas (-120), 6 CT, ESPN
FYI: The brackets play double-elimination and the winners meet in a best-of-three final.
I checked in with Matt Grissom of College Baseball Insiders to get his early CWS thoughts for this newsletter. But he wrote back with so much good stuff — stats, strategy, predictions — that I turned it into a full story you can find here.
Meantime, VSiN’s engineering crew has set off on the 1,284-mile, 18-hour trip to Omaha. (I would have offered to help, but I haven’t driven a car since 1988.)
Our broadcast schedule at Rocco’s, home of the CWS Jello Shot, just a soft toss from Charles Schwab Field:
Thursday-Friday
- Money Moves (Stormy Buonantony/Jonathan Von Tobel), 1-3 CT
- Follow The Money (Mitch Moss/Pauly Howard), 3-6 CT
Saturday
- Follow The Money, 9 am-noon CT
VSiN By The Books co-host Jensen Lewis will join us, too.
If you are around, please stop by.
