Coming off their Week 4 bye, the App State Mountaineers look to bounce back from the loss they suffered the week prior. Things won’t get any easier for the Mountaineers, as they travel across much of the United States to face the 2-1 Boise State Broncos. The Mountaineers are 2-1 themselves; however, Boise State has looked like a completely different team since its tough Week 1 loss to USF. The Broncos are also coming off a hard-fought win at altitude against the Air Force Academy.

The stat sheet doesn’t show a vast difference between these two teams, but App State has turned the ball over at a significantly higher rate than Boise State. Through three games, Boise State has only four turnovers, while App State has eight. If the Mountaineers want a fighting chance in this one, they will need to keep turnovers to a minimum—if any at all.

Weather

The weather should not be much of a factor in this game, with temperatures in the low 80s at kickoff, dipping into the mid-70s as the game progresses. There is also a 0% chance of precipitation, and winds will average around 6 mph, with gusts up to 10 mph.

Betting Overview

This non-conference matchup opened with Boise State at -17.5, but it has moved slightly to between -15.5 and -16.5 depending on the book. The moneyline has stayed fairly steady around +525 for App State and -700 for Boise State. The total has inched up from its original line of 58.5 to between 60.5 and 61.5, depending on the book.

Betting Trends

Through three games this season, App State is 1-2 ATS and has seen two unders in those three contests. Last season, the Mountaineers were 1-2 ATS in non-conference matchups and 1-3 in games where they were an away underdog. For the over/under last year, the under hit in two of three non-conference games, and as an away underdog the over and under split at two apiece.

Boise State is 2-1 ATS so far this season and has had two overs compared to one under. Last season, as a home favorite, the Broncos were 4-3 ATS, and in non-conference play they went 2-4 (including the CFP). The over hit in four of seven home games for Boise State last year and in four of six non-conference games.

Final Thoughts

This will certainly be a crucial game for App State and its new coaching staff. Coming off their first loss and a bye, Mountaineer fans expect this team to bounce back and show resilience in a time when things haven’t gone their way. Boise State’s high-powered offense will be on full display, so it will be vital to App State’s chances to limit turnovers.
