Matt Grissom, frequent VSiN guest on the topic of college baseball betting, offers his top plays for Saturday, June 7.
Well yesterday didn’t go as planned AT ALL. Florida State’s bullpen giving up a 4-1 lead in the 9th with 2 outs is asinine and Auburn having all of the momentum in their late night thriller of a game just to have Caden Bodine launch one into orbit to retake the lead in extra innings was painful to watch. And don’t even get me started on Miami… they still have runners stranded on bases.
Anyway, today is a new day that presents its own challenges. The key to handicapping this sport is to try to forget about yesterday and our biases of those results to clear our mind and focus on today’s slate. At least that is what I’m going to do.
Florida State ML (-150) vs. Oregon State
Probable Starters: Jamie Arnold (FSU) vs Ethan Kleinschmit (OSU)
After losing last night’s game, there’s a chance that Florida State could come out flat, but the main reason I’m backing the Noles not to have that happen is because of Jamie Arnold. Joey Volini did his job yesterday. I expect Arnold to have similar success. I also think the FSU offense will have more success against Kleinschmit than they did Dax Whitney. Now, the only question left is whether the bullpen can close out a game. We shall see, but I believe they can get it done to force a Game 3.
UTSA +1.5 (-130) vs. UCLA
Probable Starters: Zach Royse (UTSA) vs Michael Barnett (UCLA)
I’m going to back this Roadrunners team based on the principle that I don’t believe in UCLA. I think Zach Royse is a solid enough starter who can keep the UCLA bats at bay. The weather will be nice, the stadium isn’t overly large as far as a fan capacity, and I don’t think this Roadrunners team is intimidated by anyone after going down to Austin and handling Texas in the regional last weekend. I don’t believe UTSA’s success was a fluke. I expect them to show up and show out again against good competition.
Auburn ML (-120) vs. Coastal Carolina
Probable Starters: Christian Chatterton (AUB) vs Jacob Morrison (CCU)
It’s tough to fade a team riding a 22-game win streak coming off an epic win in extra innings last night, but as much as I want to root for the mid-major in Omaha, I do think they ultimately get there, but not before Auburn forces a Game 3. This play boils down to whether or not Auburn can get off the mat after last night’s loss (or early morning loss). I believe they will be able to.
I have also attached a quick reference guide here for subscribers to use as a cheat sheet.
