New York Yankees vs. San Francisco Giants
Night number one was a tough one for the Giants offense as they were shut out and now face starting pitcher Cam Schlittler, who is coming off a superb rookie season in which he posted a 2.96 ERA with 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings in 14 starts last season.
Giants starting pitcher Robbie Ray had a 3.65 ERA with 1.1 home runs per nine innings allowed last season, his lowest in a season in which he made at least three starts since 2015, but his ERA ballooned to 5.54 after the All-Star break with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of two in that span.
Pick: Yankees Moneyline -122 and Under 7.5
Greg’s Handicap: Yankees -140 and Total 7.1

Colorado Rockies vs. Miami Marlins
Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara had an awful year in 2025, posting a 5.36 ERA, but a 4.28 fielding independent with 2.8 walks and 1.1 home runs per nine innings shows he was one of the league’s most unlucky pitchers last season. Usually, pitchers coming off major surgery, like he did last season, begin to thrive again in year two, as he had never posted an ERA above 4.14 in any season in which he made at least one start until last year.
The Rockies, meanwhile, were last in the league in road scoring with 2.8 runs per game last season and send Kyle Freeland to the mound, who had a 4.98 ERA with just 6.9 strikeouts per nine innings. The Rockies bullpen also had a 5.18 ERA last season, ranking 29th out of 30 MLB teams.
Pick: Marlins Run Line -1.5 +115
Greg’s Handicap: Marlins -1.5 +104

Kansas City Royals vs. Atlanta Braves
Both starting pitchers are coming off injury-plagued 2025 seasons, with Royals starter Cole Ragans posting a 4.67 ERA in 13 starts, but a 2.50 fielding independent shows he was outrageously unlucky, as he allowed just one home run per nine innings while generating 14.3 strikeouts per nine innings.
Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale gets to face a Royals lineup that ranked 26th in runs last season with just over four runs per game. Sale had a 2.58 ERA with a 2.67 fielding independent, generating 11.8 strikeouts to 2.3 walks per nine innings. After 2024 and 2025 seasons in which much of the Braves lineup was banged up, they look to return to their 2023 form when they led the league with 5.75 runs per game.
Pick: Braves -137
Greg’s Handicap: Braves -174

Detroit Tigers vs. San Diego Padres
Tigers starting pitcher Framber Valdez looks to work past his awful finish in Houston last season, where his team went 2-8 in his last 10 starts. He allowed at least four runs in eight of those 10 starts with a 6.05 ERA in that span.
Padres starting pitcher Michael King was limited to 15 starts last season, posting a 3.44 ERA with 1.5 home runs per nine innings allowed after allowing fewer than one home run per nine innings in each of the previous four seasons. He is supported by a Padres bullpen that had the lowest ERA in the league last season at 3.06.
Pick: Padres Moneyline -118
Greg’s Handicap: Padres -148
