NBA Best Bets Today – Monday, March 23

Lakers ML (-127 – 1.5 units) vs. Pistons

It certainly seems like the Pistons are taking some sharp money tonight, but I’m rolling with the Lakers. Of course, being on the wrong side of Los Angeles games has completely depleted my bankroll over the last couple of weeks, so it’s entirely possible I have a miserable read on this team. But Detroit being without Cade Cunningham and Isaiah Stewart makes it very hard to imagine the team finding a way to win this one.

Without Cunningham, the Pistons still defend at a very high level. In fact, they’re allowing only 108.4 points per 100 possessions with Cunningham off the floor. That’s good for the 92nd percentile in the NBA, according to Cleaning The Glass. However, since February 27, the Lakers are 12-1 and scoring 123.4 points per 100 possessions. They’re performing like a top-three offense in the NBA in that span, with Luka Doncic absolutely torching opponents. Well, good offenses tend to top good defenses in this league. That should be concerning for Detroit, as the Pistons offense is miserable without Cunningham. Meanwhile, Los Angeles is sixth in the NBA in points allowed per 100 possessions (110.8) over the last 13 games.

It’s also a little underrated that Isaiah Stewart is out for the Pistons. That’s a massive body, an elite rim protector, and a guy that can knock down 3s.
