Wednesday Player Prop Best Bets
Below you’ll find my official plays on the player prop market for Wednesday. These are the ones that make the VSiN Pro Picks page and count towards my season-long record.
Dean Wade Over 5.5 Points (+105) vs. Magic
Cavaliers at Magic – 7:30 pm ET
Wade isn’t going to get a ton of touches this evening, but I think he can have six points. In games that Wade has played with both Donovan Mitchell and James Harden, the big wing is averaging 8.3 points per game. Wade also scored 13 points in the most recent game in which Jarrett Allen was out and the two talented guards were in. Well, that’s the situation we’re going to see tonight, as Allen remains out for Cleveland. That means more minutes for Wade as a small-ball power forward next to Evan Mobley. Of course, the Magic are a good defensive team, and they’re seemingly finding another gear here lately. That said, there might not be awesome looks to go around. But Wade is the last player Orlando will be worrying about on the scouting report. So, he should at least get better looks than the others. Realistically, we’re not asking for much here. If Wade hits a 3 at any point, this really should get home.
Jakob Poeltl Over 10.5 Points (-115) vs. Pelicans
Raptors at Pelicans – 8:00 pm ET
Poeltl is another player that really isn’t too involved in his team’s offense, but I think he’ll have a decent game tonight. Poeltl is averaging 13.4 points per game over the last five contests, and he’s playing 28.6 minutes per game. It seems like he’s a lot healthier right now, and this is a perfect matchup for him. This year, the Pelicans are 28th in the NBA when it comes to defending around the rim, where Poeltl scores 75% of his points. New Orleans is also the worst team in the NBA defending putbacks, so Poeltl can do some damage by being active on the offensive glass. Also, the last time Poeltl faced a bottom-five defense in defensive rating, he scored 18 points. That was against the Wizards on February 28.
Reed Sheppard Over 14.5 Points (-104 – 1.5 units) & Sheppard Alt Points 20+ (+300 – 0.25 units) & Sheppard Alt Points 25+ (+900 – 0.1 units) vs. Nuggets
Rockets at Nuggets – 10:00 pm ET
I always worry about Sheppard’s minutes, as Ime Udoka prefers approaching the second-year guard with tough love. However, this really feels like a game in which Houston will need Sheppard’s skill set. Denver is the No. 1 team in the NBA in adjusted offensive rating (120.1), meaning Sheppard’s firepower will be necessary as the Rockets try to keep up with the Nuggets. Sheppard has also played well against Denver this season, averaging 23.0 points per game in three contests. That really shouldn’t be all that surprising either. The Nuggets are 26th in the NBA when it comes to defending spot-up jumpers, and they’re also a below-average group when it comes to guarding above-the-break 3s. Sheppard is an absolute marksman from deep, so he has taken advantage of those deficiencies. Sheppard is also a good transition player, so he can get himself some easy buckets there. I just like Sheppard to have a big game tonight, so I’m going heavy on Over 14.5 and sprinkling some alternates.
