Saratoga Picks for Sunday, August 31:
TRACKING MR. ED: Good things came in threes Saturday afternoon at Saratoga (Day 38) as jockeys Kendrick Carmouche and out-of-towner Edgard Zayas, as well as HOF trainer Todd Pletcher, all had three trips to the Winner’s Circle apiece. Looking ahead to Sunday’s 14-race card, Race 5 The Jockeys Club GoId Cup at 1:45 p.m. ET/10:45 a.m. headlines the program with multiple-stakes-winners Mindframe & Sierra Leone as the expected favorites. Partly sunny skies and high in the low 80s are expected. Here are Mr. Ed’s exclusive VSiN selections.
Mr. Ed’s Saratoga Picks for Sunday (8/31)
Race 2 (11:55 a.m. ET/8:55 a.m. PT) — $90K MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT for NY-bred 2YOs going 5½ furlongs on the grass
Mr. Ed gets the day started with picking #5 KULEANA (9-2 morning line), trained by excellent upstate conditioner Jeremiah Englehart and ridden by top jock Irad Ortiz, Jr. It’s far too good a team to pass up.
SARATOGA SELECTION: $10 to Win. ($10)
Race 3 (12:31 p.m. ET/9:31 a.m. PT) — $115K CLAIMING for 3YOs & up going a mile
Mr. Ed is betting that #4 SOCIETY MAN (6-1 morning line) can beat this bunch. He’s way overdue for a victory. Danny Gargan trains; Joel Rosario rides. Pick is my main man!
SARATOGA SELECTION: $20 To Win. ($20)
Race 5 (1:45 p.m. ET/10:45 a.m. PT) — $1,000,000 G1 JOCKEY CLUB GOLD CUP for 3YOs & up going 1¼ mile
Mr. Ed’s BEST BET OF THE DAY is #3 SIERRA LEONE (8-5 morning line) for the first-class duo of Chad Brown and Flavien Prat. Son of Gun Runner knows the way to the Winner’s Circle, having banked more than $6 million. Look for him to be great late!
SARATOGA SELECTION: $50 To Win. ($50)
Race 6 (2:20 p.m. ET/11:20 a.m. PT) — $110K ALLOWANCE CLAIMING for 3YO fillies going 1⅛ mile on the grass
Mr. Ed is betting on #1 CLIFFS (4-1 morning line) to win for excellent trainer Cherie DeVaux, regardless of who is in the saddle (Lezcano injured). Fillie fits the inside post like a glove.
SARATOGA SELECTION: $10 to Win. ($10)
Race 7 (2:55 p.m. ET/11:55 a.m. PT) — $100K MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT for 2YO fillies going 6 furlongs
Sharp trainer Whit Beckman sends out #11 KARMA CAT (5-1 morning line) and invites Irad Ortiz, Jr. to ride. With him on board, what’s not to like! My PLAY OF THE DAY.
SARATOGA SELECTION: $20 to Win. ($20)
Race 8 (3:29 p.m. ET/12:29 p.m. PT) — $110K ALLOWANCE for 3YOs & up going a mile

Race 10 (4:38 p.m. ET/1:38 p.m. PT) — $175K DISCO PARTNER STAKES for 3YOs & up going 5½ furlongs on the turf
In a very competitive contest, Mr. Ed takes a shot with #7 ALOGON (9-2 morning line) for low-key trainer, Ed Allard, and high-class rider, Irad Ortiz, Jr. It’s a match made to win at the Spa.
