Since we’ve passed the quarter mark of the season, it’s time to check in on where some of college football’s award races stand. We discussed the Heisman yesterday, which is essentially a race for the nation’s top quarterback this year. Now it’s time to look at a few key positional awards: the Doak Walker and the Fred Biletnikoff.

Closing Thoughts
As you can see, these races have slightly clearer frontrunners than the Heisman Trophy race. There has, however, been far more shake-up in the player lists for the Walker and Biletnikoff awards, which makes sense given the vast talent nationwide at running back and wide receiver. The only non-surprise is Jeremiah Smith sitting atop the Biletnikoff list. I’d keep an eye on his odds after this weekend, as two Alabama players will have a chance to make their case and potentially boost Smith’s standing.
