With only three games remaining for the Charlotte 49ers, this week’s home matchup against UTSA represents their best chance to pick up a win in American Conference play—though even that seems unlikely. The Roadrunners have had an up-and-down season but now sit at 4-5, just one win away from bowl eligibility. Offensively, UTSA has been solid, averaging 394.9 yards per game (54th in FBS) and 30.9 points per game (39th in FBS). Defensively, however, they’ve struggled, allowing 417.1 yards per game (105th in FBS) and 34.6 points per game (121st in FBS).

Charlotte, meanwhile, sits at 1-8 and well out of bowl contention but has the opportunity to play spoiler this week. Unfortunately, the 49ers have had issues on both sides of the ball, averaging just 295.1 yards per game (126th in FBS) and 15 points per game (129th in FBS). Their defense hasn’t been much better, allowing 471.8 yards per game (132nd in FBS) and 38.9 points per game (134th in FBS). At this point, every game for Charlotte is about pride, and it will be interesting to see how they respond in this matchup.
