Game: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Date: December 8th at 8:15 PM ET

Where to Watch: ABC

In the final game of Week 14, we get an NFC East vs. AFC West matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Chargers. With both teams fighting for playoff positioning, every game carries extra weight. Philadelphia enters this one on a two-game skid and sits at 8–4 overall. Offensively, things haven’t looked great—they rank 24th in yards per game (304.8) and 19th in points per game (22.5). They’ve been slightly better defensively, ranking 23rd in yards allowed (347.2) but a strong 9th in points allowed (20.8).

Los Angeles is also 8–4 after picking up a divisional win against the Raiders last week. The Chargers have been solid offensively, sitting 10th in yards per game (346.8) and 17th in scoring (23.1). Defensively they’ve been even better, allowing just 275.3 yards per game (3rd in the NFL) and 21 points per game (11th). Both teams are dealing with key injuries heading into this one, so it will be interesting to see how each side responds in a high-caliber Monday night matchup.

Weather

This game will be played in the mid-to-high 60s with light winds around 6 mph and gusts up to 7 mph. With the roof, weather won’t have an impact even if rain were in the forecast.

Betting Overview

This MNF showdown opened with Philadelphia as 2.5-point favorites. Most books still sit at that number, though some have dipped to 2 or even 1.5. The moneyline has largely held steady with the Eagles at -130 and the Chargers at +116. The total has seen the most movement, dropping sharply from 45.5 to 41.5.

Position Group & Coaching Comparisons

Coaching: This is an intriguing coaching matchup between Nick Sirianni and Jim Harbaugh. Both come from offensive backgrounds, but Philadelphia’s offense has struggled this season largely due to a predictable scheme. It will be interesting to see how each staff adapts this week, but I would lean toward Harbaugh having the upper hand.

DLs vs. OLs: The Chargers have had issues on both lines this season. Philadelphia hasn’t been elite up front offensively, but they’ve still been better than Los Angeles. Even with Jalen Carter out tonight, I would still give the Eagles the advantage in the trenches.

QBs: Justin Herbert’s hand injury makes this comparison tougher. With Jalen Hurts being the healthier of the two, he gets a slight edge, though his consistency hasn’t been ideal in recent weeks.

RBs & TEs vs. LBs: This area clearly favors Philadelphia. The Chargers have capable running backs, but they don’t match the depth in the Eagles’ backfield. The tight end position also tilts toward Philly, as do the off-ball linebackers.

WRs vs. Secondaries: Despite the criticism surrounding the Eagles’ wide receiver room, they still match up better than the Chargers secondary, which has had its struggles. Los Angeles has solid receivers as well, but they’ll be facing a tougher defensive backfield.

Betting Trends

The Philadelphia Eagles enter this matchup with a 7-5 ATS record, including a 4-2 mark on the road and a 3-2 record as a road favorite. They’re 1-1 against non-conference opponents this season. Totals have leaned toward the under, hitting in 7 of 12 games overall, splitting 3–3 on the road, and hitting the under in 3 of 5 games as a road favorite. Both of their non-conference matchups have also gone under.

Los Angeles sits at 5-6-1 ATS, with a 3-2-1 record at home—each of those games as favorites. The Chargers are 1-2 ATS in non-conference play. Totals have split 6–6 overall and 3–3 at home, while the under has hit in 2 of their 3 non-conference games.

Final Thoughts

This Monday Night matchup brings plenty of storylines, especially with notable injuries on both sides. Even with the Eagles missing Jalen Carter, I think the Chargers will feel their absences more. Because of that, I like Philadelphia to win and cover. As for the total, it feels too tricky to call, so I’m staying away.
