On Saturday afternoon, we’ll see a battle between the two North Carolina programs in the American Conference, as the East Carolina Pirates travel to take on the Charlotte 49ers. ECU has struggled throughout the season, despite remaining competitive in many of its matchups. The Pirates enter this contest with a 9-17 overall record and a 4-9 mark in conference play. This sets up as a Quad 3 opportunity for ECU, a quadrant in which they are just 1-5 this year. They are currently averaging 71.0 points per game (264th in Division I) while allowing 77.2 points per contest (240th nationally).

Charlotte comes into this matchup looking to snap a four-game losing streak. That skid has pulled their overall record back to .500 at 13-13, alongside a 7-6 record in the American. Charlotte showed strong resilience earlier this week in its matchup against Tulsa, and I expect that effort to carry over into this contest. Playing at home, the 49ers should be in a solid position to cover the spread against ECU. As for the total, I’m staying away from it in this spot.
