Gulfstream Park Picks for Saturday, March 14:
WHAT’S A LIFELONG SPORTS FAN TO DO? Saturday’s lineup is proof positive that there’s life after the NFL. Mr. Ed’s TV FEAST: The Players Championship (TPC) from dawn to dusk; horse racing from noon to midnight; and NCAA bracketology around the clock for the next week. Mr. Ed’s picks: Rickie Fowler, Viktor Hovland and the 17th hole at TPC. Gulfstream Park and Virginia Derby selections (see below). Roundball FINAL FOUR: Michigan, Duke, Arizona and any team other than Faux Miami (of Ohio). He’ll be settled in front of his BIG screen, remote in hand, laptop open to DraftKings, a fifth of Buffalo Trace and shot glass for sipping. Add a kraut dog or two and a contented cat on his lap, it’s Mr. Ed’s 18-hour-a-day Mid-March wagering marathon! It’s second only to reporting live for VSiN from Circa — and a bit cheaper. Sunday’s plan? Repeat of Saturday: Sleep, eat, drink, wager, pray, win.
HORSING AROUND: Mr. Ed considered playing the Virginia Derby and the Colonial Downs card until he took a glance at the track’s lackluster 10-race program. (For those who are interested, my top three VA Derby picks are below). As for Gulfstream, Mr. Ed found several selections costing nearly $200 in wagers. His BEST BET is a Pick 4 (Races 9-12) to close out the card. First post on the challenging 12-race program is 12:50 p.m. ET/9:50 a.m. PT. Here’s a look at Mr. Ed’s exclusive VSiN picks.

Race 1 $34K MAIDEN CLAIMING for 3YO fillies going 1 1/16-mile on the grass
Nothing quite like hitting the early DD to get the gambling juices flowing. Mr. Ed likes a pair in Leg 1: #4 STARSHIP DAYTONA (9-2 morning line) for high-percentage trainer Nick Tomlinson with Luca Panici riding, and #5 COLONIAL SENSE (3-1), consistent closer with rider upgrade to HOFer Javier Castellano. Makes “cents” to me.
