Maiden Claiming, Belmont At The Big A, Race #4
Embed from Getty ImagesWe do not often dip into the MCL level, but hey, a winner is a winner, and I like #7 Hot Off the Beach quite a bit here! He was bet first time out for Dutrow, who is 21% with horses making their second career start, with Lezcano sticking aboard. The Dam was a good turfer, and he is going to have some cheap speed to run down here. He’s a good price at 5/2.
#3 High Leverage is one of the speedballs who will be looking for the lead early. The last two have been at a higher level, so the drop here may do him some good.
#10 Light Fantastic has a lot going on here. We are dropping in class, off a long layoff, switching barns and removing blinkers. In a way, this is basically a first career start. He draws a send rider, from a send post, so expect him close from the jump.
#6 Twenty One Red will have the opportunity to get back to what he is best at, turf sprinting. The issue is last time we saw him do that, he did not win. They did think enough of this one to go to a stakes race in start number two. Maybe today is lucky number eleven for this horse who has yet to break through.

NY Stallion Stakes, Belmont at the Big A Race #7
Rarely do I write up two short prices on a Saturday, but here we are. Let’s go to #5 Celtic Dawn, who is two for two in her young career, with both of those coming over the dirt. Today, we are turf sprinting, so we will have a new surface; however, she was originally going to debut on the lawn until the rain got in the way. It’s a positive sign that she is pointed back to the grass and her last is good enough to win.
#2 Dancingwithdestiny is going to try to wire this field and is the only other one I am very interested in here. She has been snappy out of the gate, but has lost in the last two when facing winners. She will have to get braver on the lead today.
#3 Clap Back is an interesting price, albeit underneath, who has yet to run on the grass. She started her career in New York, but has not faced stake bred running since the debut. With the race coming up soft, she is a player at 10-1.
Right to her outside, #4 Miss Jane Hathaway will also go to the sod for the first time. She won over a sloppy track on debut before speed and fade last time out. She will need to try to sit off and pass horses here to have a legit shot. Underneath seems like her best result.
Top 4: 5-2-3-4
The Bets: $50 Win #5
