Washington Nationals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates 12:35 PM ET
James Wood Over 0.5 Hits (-230 per DraftKings)
Embed from Getty ImagesThis Pirates series hasn’t exactly been the best for left fielder James Wood, as he has only accumulated 1 hit in 10 at-bats. That said, there’s nothing a day game can’t fix to get you back on track. We will see the Pirates go with righty Braxton Ashcraft to start the game, who has been mighty effective in 17.1 innings of work, as he holds a 2.12 ERA, and a 1.00 WHIP. In his 3 starts he has given up 4 hits in each of those. Wood, as a lefty, sees the ball much better out of the opposite arm. This season alone he is batting .277 against righties, though last year he batted just .244. This will be Wood’s first experience against Ashcraft, but given he is leadoff, I am much more confident he will be able to acclimate to Ashcraft’s stuff compared to the rest of the lineup.
Combined Run Total Over 8.5 Runs (-120 per DraftKings)
Though yesterday’s game didn’t result in a lot of runs, these teams tend to score a lot of runs in day games. Pittsburgh comes into this one averaging just over 4.6 runs per game when the game is played during the day, while Washington is averaging 5.4 runs per game in day games. PNC Park is a very neutral park in terms of hitter friendliness, with a park factor of 100, but neutral doesn’t necessarily mean a quiet ballpark, as both of these teams can string together some runs in day games. Looking at the weather in this one, it looks like there’s a small chance for precipitation, but the biggest factor looks to be the wind, which could have gusts up to 24 mph, making things difficult in the field. With 2 inexperienced MLB pitchers, we could see a lot of runs in this one.
