New York Mets vs. Chicago Cubs 2:20 PM ET
New York Mets Team Total Over 4.5 Runs (-115 per DraftKings)
To put things lightly, it has been a rough go of it for this Mets team as of late, but there’s nothing like a day off and a new series with a day game that can’t fix. Today they begin a 3-game series in Chicago against the Cubs, who are currently an even 9-9 this season. The Mets order will go up against a familiar arm in Edward Cabrera, who began his MLB career in Miami.
Cabrera is certainly off to a great start this season with a 1.62 ERA, which you can somewhat attribute to early-season rust from many teams at the plate. In his last start a week ago against the Pirates, he gave up 3 earned runs and 8 hits. New York has several guys in their lineup that have had success against Cabrera, and though they’re playing in Wrigley, which isn’t hitter-friendly, the wind will be blowing out towards left field, giving balls more carry, which bodes well for the Mets run total.
Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies 6:40 PM ET
Michael Harris II Over 1.5 Total Bases (+151 per DraftKings)
Embed from Getty ImagesToday marks the beginning of the first Braves-Phillies series of the season, which always seems to produce high-intensity, close battles. Braves center fielder Michael Harris hasn’t been quite where he wants to be in the hitting department, as he has a .226 batting average this season, below his career average of .272, with just 3 extra-base hits up to this point.
That said, he will be going up against Taijuan Walker this evening, who he has a .444 batting average against in 9 ABs, with a 1.722 OPS, and 2 homers. This series will also be played in Citizens Bank Park, which is notoriously a hitter-friendly ballpark, especially for lefties, so with all of these factors, I expect a relatively big game at the plate for Harris.
Bryce Harper Under 1.5 Total Bases (-148 per DraftKings)
Phillies star Bryce Harper has had a so-so start to his season for his standards, with just a .258 batting average and an .870 OPS. He will also be facing lefty Martin Perez, who hasn’t been a good matchup for him across his career, as in 16 ABs he has just a .125 average against him, and a .410 OPS.
On the season, Harper also hasn’t been nearly as good against left-handed pitching, with just a .231 average, and a .462 slugging percentage. In his last 10 games, Harper has been under 1.5 total bases 5 times, and given the matchup this evening, I think we’ll see another slow performance out of him.
San Francisco Giants vs. Washington Nationals 6:45 PM ET
Luis Garcia Under 1.5 Total Bases (-177 per DraftKings)
Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia is a contact-oriented infielder who seems to still be dialing his timing in the early season. Through 19 games this season, he has just 22 total bases, and has failed to go over 1.5 total bases in 9 of his last 10 games. On the mound for the Giants is veteran Logan Webb, who has great command and tends to limit extra-base hits. Garcia has had a decent amount of experience against Webb, as he has had 7 ABs, and has a .143 batting average with a .393 OPS. Weather in this one doesn’t appear to pose any threat, but winds, though not strong, will be blowing in towards the hitters, giving them another obstacle to overcome.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Miami Marlins 7:10 PM ET
Janson Junk Over 3.5 Strikeouts (-141 per DraftKings)
This evening, Janson Junk and the Miami Marlins will take on the Milwaukee Brewers at home. Junk has pitched in 3 games this season where he has accumulated a total of 12 strikeouts, with 5 coming in game 1, 3 in game 2, and 4 in his most recent start. Junk had 1 outing against his former team last season in a game played in Milwaukee where he went 5 innings, and racked up 5 Ks. This Brewers squad is also averaging 8.5 strikeouts per game, as they tend to chase elevated fastballs when behind in the count.
