Game 7: Orlando Magic at Detroit Pistons – 3:30 pm ET
Embed from Getty ImagesThe last time the Magic embarrassed themselves, we were all quick to abandon them. That was right before their Play-In Tournament game against the Hornets. Orlando lost to a Boston team that was resting starters on the final day of the regular season, losing the opportunity to host the 7-8 Play-In Tournament game. Then, playing on the road in that game, the Magic were lifeless in a loss to a 76ers team that was playing without Joel Embiid. After that, you couldn’t find anyone that wanted to back Orlando in the 8-9 meeting with Charlotte. Well, the Magic beat the pulp out of the Hornets in that one.
It’s just not wise to completely overreact to one performance. And while the second half of Game 6 was miserable, it’s important to remember that the Magic have been right on the Pistons level all throughout the series. With that in mind, I’m willing to grab the points here. I’ll also sprinkle the moneyline.
Orlando is badly missing Franz Wagner, who does well defensively on Cade Cunningham and also gives the team another attacking option on offense. However, even without him, there’s no reason the Magic can’t avoid embarrassment here.
Paolo Banchero is plenty capable of holding his own in the matchup between the two alphas, the Magic backcourt can be relied on to show up, and we have seen Wendell Carter Jr. do well against Jalen Duren. Orlando will simply need to avoid long dry spells, like the one that saw the team miss 23 consecutive shots in Game 6. The Magic will also need decent minutes from the bench.
This game also happens to have a total as low as 202.0 in some spots. If this game ends up being that low in scoring, having 8.5 points will be extremely valuable.
Orlando is also 41-28-1 against the spread as a road underdog of 6.5 to 12 points under Jamahl Mosley. The Magic are also 26-23 straight-up and 31-18 ATS in games with totals of 200 to 209.5 under Mosley.
Bet: Magic +8.5 (-105 – 1.5 units) & Magic ML (+285 – 0.5 units)
Game 7: Toronto Raptors at Cleveland Cavaliers – 7:30 pm ET
I haven’t had a great read on this series when looking at sides and totals. Everything suggests Cleveland should be able to wipe the floor with Toronto, but the Raptors play with more heart and tenacity. Toronto is also playing with house money, while Cleveland has been incredibly tense. Well, I don’t feel much better about playing the spread or the total in a massive Game 7. But I do like a Same Game Parlay (SGP) that calls for the Cavaliers to win and a decent performance from James Harden.
With Cleveland, it’s just hard not to like an 8.5-point favorite to win outright when playing in front of an awesome fanbase. The Cavaliers will have to get over the nervous energy in the building, but they’re a better team on both ends of the floor. They also have more firepower. In the end, if this game ends up being a rock fight, that shot-making should come in handy.
As far as Harden goes, I understand people are praying on his downfall here. Social media is pretty damn good when Harden struggles in a big game. However, even if Harden does have a weak game here, he should be able to sleepwalk his way to 15 points and five assists. He’s averaging 21.0 points and 6.7 assists per game in this series, and he has had at least 15 points and five assists in four of the six games.
PARLAY: Cavaliers ML & James Harden 15+ Points & James Harden 5+ Assists (-130)
Additional Plays
Nothing yet.
