A beautiful 2-0 sweep in the WNBA last night extends our current run to 4-1 in our last five and 15-10 in our last 25 plays (60%) to follow up that abominable stretch in May where it felt like we couldn’t hit a bet. Thanks to the Mystics/Sky and Valkyries/Mercury, we were able to cash both tickets on Tuesday. Wednesday’s slate has just two games featuring the New York Liberty playing host to the Toronto Tempo and the Phoenix Mercury visiting the Seattle Storm. Here are the TSI projections for both games.
New York Liberty (-9.5) vs Toronto Tempo, O/U 172.5
No way around it; New York, at 5-4, has been very disappointing to start this season after being the clear title favorite coming into the season after re-signing their core and adding Satou Sabally on top of that. Injuries have kept Sabally and Sabrina Ionescu from playing much, but this team hasn’t looked the part in the early going. Toronto, in its first season in the league, has the same record but a totally different vibe around it. They’re fun and exciting to watch, and had literally zero preseason hype or expectation. The Liberty are 9th in TSI offensive rating and 7th on defense, while Toronto is 4th on offense but now dead last in defensive rating. TSI projects Liberty -10.5 with a total of 172.5, so there’s not really a play to be had in this game.
Seattle Storm (+6) vs Phoenix Mercury, O/U 162
Embed from Getty ImagesThis is a game featuring two teams who could desperately use a win. Seattle is just 3-7 on the season and Phoenix is 2-8, winning just once since their opening day blowout of the Aces. Seattle is dead last in TSI offensive rating and 6th on defense, while Phoenix is 10th and 9th, respectively. TSI projects Phoenix -5.5 with a total of 164.5, so the only lean of the day is going to be the Over, but frankly, I don’t trust either offense to produce enough to feel great about making it an official play. This is basically UMass vs. Eastern Michigan in college football terms. Gross.
Lean: Over 162
