Game 6: Detroit Pistons at Cleveland Cavaliers – 7:00 pm ET
Cavaliers lead series 3-2
The Cavaliers have unlocked their offense over the last few games. Since going down 0-2 to kick this series off, Cleveland is scoring 121.9 points per 100 possessions. That’s actually a better mark than this team had during the regular season. It helps that the Cavaliers are simply knocking down some shots that weren’t going down earlier in the playoffs. However, one of the major changes is that they’re playing through Evan Mobley more. Cleveland is running a ton of screen-and-roll actions, either getting Mobley good shots or relying on his advanced passing. Well, Mobley has responded with some strong performances as a passer, and I’m banking on that continuing in Game 6.
Mobley is averaging 5.2 assists per game since the start of this series, and he has had at least four assists in all five games in this series. Mobley has also turned things up a bit lately, which has everything to do with the change in the Cavaliers’ approach. Mobley has had at least five dimes in three straight games, and he had eight assists in Game 5. Considering the way things have been going, four assists just feels like a reasonable ask. That’s why I went Over 3.5 assists.
I also really like Max Strus to have at least 14 combined points and rebounds. Strus had 28 combined points and rebounds in Game 5. I’m not quite expecting another performance like that, but Strus shot 45.7% from three in Cleveland during the regular season. That was a very small sample size considering he was hurt most of the year, but he shot 39.5% from deep in home games last year — and did so on serious volume. I just like Strus to do some damage with his spot-up attempts, plus he’s also a threat to score in transition. We also might see him score as a cutter. Strus should also impact the game on the glass.
There’s just no way Kenny Atkinson goes away from Strus as a big-minute player, as he’s fearless in big games and has been playing some solid individual defense on Cade Cunningham. Well, if he ends up playing more than 30 minutes in this game, he should be able to clear this low combined PR total.
As far as the actual game goes, I’m sitting this one out. I have Cleveland to win the series, plus I also have a future on the Cavaliers to win the Eastern Conference. So, at this point in this best-of-seven series, I’m invested in the outcome already. However, I do think Cleveland is the right side in looking at the spread. The Cavaliers have all the momentum with the Pistons having blown a late nine-point lead in Game 5, and we haven’t yet seen Cleveland lose a home game this postseason. It’s hard to see that changing now. Tobias Harris’ regression appears to be starting, and Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson have both been played off the floor at points in this series. Cunningham just doesn’t have any reliable help.
Bet: Mobley Over 3.5 Assists (-141)
Bet: Strus Over 13.5 Points + Rebounds (-103)
Game 6: San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves – 9:30 pm ET

This is another game in which I don’t have anything traditional. I’m going to be hoping for Minnesota +10.5 to come through, as that’s part of a parlay I put in Wednesday night. However, I am taking Jaden McDaniels to knock down at least two triples. This is just a half-unit play at +155 odds, but it’s hard to pass up on anything +140 or better here. McDaniels has made at least three triples in two of the last three games in this series, and that includes Game 5. He’s just not being shy about firing away, having attempted 17 threes over the last three games. Well, as long as McDaniels is letting them fly, I’ll take my chances with him knocking them down. This is a big-game player that should be ready to go in a do-or-die battle in Minnesota — especially with San Antonio sagging off him a bit.
As far as the actual game goes, I do lean Timberwolves. Of course, I was a Minnesota believer before this series even started, and I have already cashed Over 4.5 games and Timberwolves +2.5 games. But I did sprinkle some Minnesota to win the series. The thinking there is that this is a feisty, experienced group that knows how to handle high-pressure moments, whereas this young San Antonio team is doing all of this for the first time. The Spurs have clearly shown that they’re ready for all of it, but winning a road Game 6 to close out a good opponent will be a challenge.
There’s also a lot that Minnesota can do to make things tight here. For starters, Julius Randle can certainly be more efficient offensively, especially with some favorable matchups in this series. Chris Finch could also play his five-out lineups a little more often, forcing Victor Wembanyama to guard further away from the basket. That would open up driving lanes for Anthony Edwards and the rest of the Wolves. Then, on defense, Minnesota can be better about getting back in transition, and the team can also be more disciplined with rotations. I expect to see all of that in a focused effort in Game 6.
Bet: McDaniels Over 1.5 Made Threes (+155 – 0.5 units)
