On Sunday, June 7, Alexander Zverev zeroes in on his first Grand Slam title. The 29-year-old has been the runner-up at a major three times in his career, and he is widely viewed as the best player in tennis history to have never won a Slam. Well, this is his chance. Zverev, the No. 2 seed in the 2026 French Open, will take on Flavio Cobolli, who has never been anywhere near this stage of a major. Zverev is also 3-1 against Cobolli in his career. With that in mind, keep reading for thoughts on how this match will go.
I also post more tennis predictions on the VSiN picks page. So, keep checking that page every couple of hours if you want more of my picks. I’ll also post plays for smaller tournaments on that page.

Alexander Zverev vs. Flavio Cobolli Predictions
Embed from Getty ImagesThere’s a really good chance Zverev will be in the winner’s circle on Sunday. That said, whether you like him or not, you better be very prepared for that possibility. Zverev has had an edge over Cobolli in their head-to-head history, he has played in three Grand Slam finals, and it’s pretty clear that he’s the best player on the ATP Tour that isn’t named Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, or Novak Djokovic.
Zverev has a few major advantages over his opponent in this one. Not only does he have more big-match experience, but he’s the far better server and his backhand is as good as they come. As long as Zverev doesn’t get caught looking ahead and thinking about the trophy presentation, there really isn’t much that Cobolli can do to edge him out in a best-of-five battle.
I do, however, feel that it’s only natural that Zverev will experience some nerves as he looks to finally add a big one to his resume. That should lead to some tense moments, and Zverev can be extremely vulnerable when he’s playing nervous. For as big as the serve is, he can be guilty of putting it right in the box. That means he’s not being bold in serving to spots. He can also tap his forehand over the net, allowing his opponents to come up and demolish shots for winners. That’s where this matchup becomes somewhat interesting.
Cobolli is a very good athlete, capable of playing high-level defense along the baseline. He’s also more than willing to be brave from the back of the court, swinging big to end points when he has his opportunities. Well, playing with very low expectations, there’s a good chance he shakes off the nerves of playing in his first final. And if Cobolli is playing freely, he could at least make Zverev earn this win.
I ultimately think Cobolli will push this thing to a fourth set, and I wouldn’t be too surprised if Zverev has to find a way to win it in a decider. After all, while Zverev’s record against Cobolli is strong, the Italian did beat him 6-3, 6-3 in an outdoor clay match in Germany on April 18. That shows you that Cobolli’s best tennis can give Zverev some problems.
Let’s just sit back and hope this ends up being a competitive match. By playing Over 35.5 games, that’s exactly what I’m doing. I gave that out right after the odds were released, then I briefly discussed it on my weekly Friday segment on Money Moves. It was -120 when I posted it to the Pro Picks page. Unfortunately, it’s a little pricier now. However, I’d still play it up to -140 or so.
Bet: Over 35.5 Games (-120 – 1.5 units)
